CHINNOR Village Hall has been awarded a £5,000 grant by the county council to pay for refurbishment works.
Oxfordshire County Council has awarded £55,000 to local projects to fund work on village halls that are in need of maintenance, updating and extending.

OCC's cabinet decided to approve 14 separate applications for money to make improvements at the community facilities. The money will go towards a variety of refurbishment, extension and improvement works.

Cllr Jim Couchman, cabinet member for social and community services, said: "At a time when our rural and suburban areas are losing facilities with the closure of post offices and the loss of simple facilities like telephone boxes, it is good that we are able to help with funding for village halls and community centres.

"Such facilities help bring people together and create a cohesive community spirit. We are glad to be able to offer assistance."
