THAME Community Hospital is
to receive £4million for a
redevelopment scheme.
The news, which was recently announced by the Department of Health means
the money, granted by community hospitals and services programme central
fund, will pay for vital redevelopment works to the hospital.
This funding will allow Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust (PCT), with its partners and the local community, to look at the proposals for the
work, including the 24-bed hospital and other services currently on site, including diagnostics.
Richard Mills, Director of System Reform said: "We are really excited about this announcement.
"It will have a very positive impact for local healthcare.
"We hope to work with partners in mental health, children's and social services to develop Thame Community Hospital into a first class
healthcare facility for local people.
"We already have good support from the League of Friends and hope to expand this to the wider community."
The PCT will now develop an outline business plan for the hospital, involving surveyors and architects, to explore every option for development.
A key element in this planning will be to work closely with the local people, giving the opportunity to share ideas and comment on the PCT's plans.
Thame MP John Howell has campaigned for the hospital's financial backing. He said: "The hospital is a much loved and much valued part of the town and it's not difficult to see why.
"It's not just the excellent services it provides – it's the warmth and professionalism of the staff, the loyalty of its friends and the welcoming atmosphere.
"I wanted the Government to end the uncertainty over the funding for the re-development of the hospital and make an official announcement.
"The Government has now done so.
"I'm really pleased for the hospital and the town; the new hospital will offer local people better access to a wide range of local services and diagnostics, in high quality, up to date, facilities."
Richard Burton, spokesman from Bucks PCT, welcomed the funds, saying: "This money will have a positive impact on local health care by enabling us to provide a first-class facility with improved services and access for the local population."
The PCT currently supports five community hospitals within Buckinghamshire, providing a wide range of accessible healthcare.
These include in-patient beds for adults, a wide variety of out-patient clinics, diagnostics, and advisory services.
